Creating my logo

I have looked back at the local newspaper's logos to compare them, and found similarities between them all. Black font is used for the area and a coloured font is used for the word 'gazette' or 'echo', predominantly red or blue. The area that the newspaper serves is always smaller than the newspapers title, and the area is always the first word, usually placed above the title. The Sudbury Mercury is an anomaly as both words are the same size. The majority of the logos are also in capital letters.

Here are the logos of newspapers that are local to me:

All the above fonts are serif except the Haverhill Echo, and are all similar: large, clear and easy to read. I am currently creating my logo using software called gimp - GNU image manipulation programme.
