Initial ideas for newspaper

In order to create the first two pages of a newspaper I am going to use Microsoft Publisher as I am familiar with it and it offers layouts that would be suitable for a newspaper.

Price:
In order to decide which price to sell my paper at, I have looked at other papers and compared them:
Halstead Gazette: 40p
The Sun: 30p
Braintree and Witham Times: 60p
The Guardian: £1

I have decided to sell my newspaper for 40p as it's an even, round number which is easy to find the right amount of change for, and similar to the other local newspaper prices.

Name of paper:
I chose the name 'Wickham Gazette' as it clearly shows the area that the paper serves. Because I live in Wickham I will be able to create plenty of plausible stories, and get pictures to go along with them. Wickham doesn't have a newspaper; the most local one is Halstead which is around 4 miles away.
The list of possible names I came up with prior to deciding were:
Wickham Chronicle
Wickham Times
Wickham Free Press
Wickham's Weekly News
Wickham Gazette

I liked 'Wickham Gazette' the best and it proved popular in my questionnaire.

Adverts:
I am going to promote my Dad's waste disposal company, my cousin's catering service and the local pub. I chose to create adverts for these businesses because it will be easier than making whole new businesses just for the purpose of my newspaper, and will take too long. I already know a lot about these three businesses and therefore I will be able to make adverts easily.

Articles:
I am going to use two articles on the front page of my newspaper, one regarding a local girl who has qualified for the Olympics, and another about a local pensioner opening a hotel in Wickham. These will also briefly appear on my website. I will also include five other articles on the second page.
Corresponding photographs will feature on some articles such as the Olympic story, where I will use a photo of Laura and her horse.
